Remember March 11th

Respects in remembrance to those who lost their lives in the Tohoku earthquake one year ago.

I had a vlog in mind to decribe my experience with the earthquake but I felt as an artist I should create a piece to show my respects. So I drew this. And added appropriate music over it.

I will tell you my experience of the earthquake anyways.
Yes, on March 11, 2011 I was in Japan. Specifically Komae, Tokyo. At the time I was teaching English as an ALT at several schools in the area. It was the final hour of school and strangely I did not have a class to teach at that period. I was alone in a room doing school prep and waiting for the school day to end when the quake hit.

It was the longest most freightening quake I've been through. Prior to this my only experience with a quake was a small one in America during middle school. I can't remember how long it lasted, a few minutes? I felt like it was shaking for forever. I even thought I was gonna die.

After the quake ended the announcement over the intercom was made and we call evacuted out of the building. I was still in shock and terrified but at the same time I was all too impressed by how the kids of the Elementary school handled it. There was literally only one or two first or second grade kids who were crying but most everyone remained relatively calm.

It was an eerie feeling. But we were alive.

Getting home after that was another story. I worked at least an hour away from home and all the buses and trains were down leading me to wait a few hours and decide to go on a several hour journey home by foot when it started getting dark.

Maybe I wil vlog this after all lol

But I just wanted to express my respect to all those in the Tohoku area and give a moment of thought to them. Let us all keep them in our hearts and minds.

Notes:

恋/愛
Koi/Ai

Both mean love but have describe different definitions of love

恋 Koi = Romantic Love/Passionate love
愛 Ai = The broader more general word for love.

恋してる　Koi shiteru- To be in Love
愛してる　Ai Shiteru- To love

Koi is always wanting. Ai is always giving.

"Renai （恋愛）" is written with the kanji characters of both "koi" and "ai." This word means, "romantic love."

好きSuki = Like

Formula for saying "I like ____" :
_______が好き

あなたが好き/Anata ga suki is equivalent of "I like you"

iPhone 10x Zoom Lens

Yesterday I went shopping in Akiba for some different equipment, and I came across and bought this iPhone Zoom Lens with mini tripod and iphone mount:

Honestly I bought this soley for the phone/tripod mount. It cost 1800yen for the package and the cheapest mount I could find was 1500, so I got this and considered the Tripod, case, and lens as a bonus.

I've been using the iPhone for a good year and a half now, It takes pretty good pictures. I try not to use the zoom fuction on the iPhone cause its pure digital zoom and I abhor digital zoom. Really it just makes your image smaller and more grainy. You should just take the pic and crop it later if that's what you want.

Anyways. I got it, and I thought I'd try it out since I have it. Its 10x zoom so anything close is gonna be blurry, this really seems to be intended for taking scenery and stuff far away. I went to my roof which always has a nice view.

To know what I'm taking I aimed my camera to the Aoyama Store sign which stood out the most amongst all the buildings. This first photo was shot WITH the lens. Its a little clumsy to handle so I guess thats why its paired with the tripod but I was able to get somewhat a clear photo. You can adjust the lens somewhat too.

Then this is how it looks without it. Can you even see the store sign? I was pretty impressed when I did this comparison. I wasn't really able to try it out at the store because the demo on display was all scratched up. But hey, this is pretty cool. Can't wait to play around with it a bit more.
